What are the size dimensions of a standard melfha?

Each melfha is hand picked and is 14 feet wide and 4.9 ft long, the shoulders are pre-sewn for easy wrapping and are made out of either cotton or rayon.

Are there sizes?

They are normally one size fits all but for women who are taller (5'7+)  we have the tall collection, or you can buy a Melfha unsewn (basic melfha) and tie it yourself in a way that adds length.

Sewn? Unsewn?

Sewn melfhas are ideal for easier wrapping and more security. Some people prefer to tie their melfhas themselves so they buy them unsewn, it is really a matter of personal preference and comfort. Regular melfhas are normally sewn and basic are unsewn but have the option of being sewn for another $15. 

What do I wear under it?

You can wear a long sleeve shirt, a long sleeve maxi dress, a tank maxi dress, or  a maxi skirt. whatever you’re comfortable with

My melfha is stiff, what do i do? 

Sometimes when the melfhas are made they are dyed on a stiffer fabric, if your melfha is stiff upon arrival you can soak it in a tub of water then dry it or wash it in your washing machine on delicate then dry it on delicate  

How do I wash my melfha?

You can hand wash it or wash in the delicates and air dry or dry on delicate.

Why this Pricing?

The process of getting these melfhas is an extensive one. the melfhas are ethically sourced, made to order, hand dyed, sewn, and in some cases embroidered and beaded. Yes, it is possible to get certain cheaper kinds of melfhas in markets across west Africa but these are not from a market nor market quality.

Importing an item during a pandemic is difficult and more expensive on its own but there are also added expenses involved in running a small business.

Black/African and Muslim women are being supported and paid throughout every step in this process. We aim to add options that are suitable for everyone in the future. 

Returns/Refunds/Exchanges?

Here at Melfhas by Meem we strive to bring you quality melfhas but we also understand that things can happen. We do returns and refunds, but we not do exchanges unless for a valid reason. If there is an issue with your melfha please send an email to MelfhasByMeem@gmail.com and we will figure out the best way to help you moving forward. We do not accept washed or cut melfhas in returns.
